The Independent Fire Company is located in Ranson West Virginia. Ranson is an adjoining town to Charles Town and both are in Jefferson County which is located in the Eastern Panhandle of West Virginia. All fire, rescue, and EMS incidents are handled by our volunteer members. Currently we protect a population of approximately 35,000 in 125 square miles as a first due company. We operate (2) ALS Ambulances, (2) Class A pumpers, 3,000 Gallon Tanker, Rescue Squad, Brush Truck, Utility, and the Independent Fire Company Swift Water Rescue Team which has members from our department as well as other Jefferson County companies. The members of Independent Fire Company take great pride in our station and apparatus and will continue to serve the citizens for many years to come.
Did you know roughly two-thirds of home fire deaths occur in residences without working smoke alarms. Since most fatal fires occur at night, it’s essential that every home have working smoke alarms to provide early warning. Working smoke alarms increase the chance of surviving a house fire by 50%. The Independent Fire Company would like to remind everyone the importance of changing the batteries and test all smoke detectors in your home.
